As part of our Mountain Funk Project, the Blood Orange Gose features coriander and a whole lot of blood oranges. It sits at an easy-drinking 5.4% ABV (Alcohol By Volume) and 9 IBU’s (International Bitterness Units). Brewed with sea salt water, this ale is perfect for enjoying after a good sweat. The finished product is dry and crisp, from the first sip to the last.

Gose’s are a traditional German-style unfiltered sour wheat beer. The style gets its name from the town it was traditionally brewed in, Goslar, back in the early 13th century. It is speculated that the aquifer in Goslar was rich with minerals, which resulted in a natural salty character. Once the style became more popular, it migrated from Goslar to Leipzig, and from there it took off. Local breweries started to copy the style and Gose Taverns (Gosenschänken) began to pop up all over the town.

Nowadays, craft breweries take their own spin on the style. From watermelon to mango, the Gose has become a very approachable introduction to the world of craft and sour beers. In addition to a yeast fermentation, our Gose’s go through a lactobacillus fermentation, which produces the dry and sour character. Lactobacillus is a bacteria that creates lactic acid, which reduces the PH in Beer.

Draught Works Brewery’s Mountain Funk Project offers something fun and palate-pleasing for each and every beer enthusiast. Currently, we have a Cranberry Gose and a Strawberry Margarita Gose, along with the Blood Orange Gose. You can fill a growler or crowler of anything on tap at Draught Works, or grab a 6-pack of the Blood Orange Gose in the taproom or at your local gas station or grocery store. When you need to replenish all that salt you sweat out during your hike or float, grab a Gose!
