Soft Landing Missoula named our Q1 Cheers for Charity recipient
Did you know that there are currently over 84 MILLION forcibly displaced people in the world and that only 26 million displaced individuals qualify as a refugee with a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group?
In 2016 an awesome group of compassionate and concerned community members joined together with the common goal to support refugees worldwide and create a “soft landing” right here in Missoula for those whose lives have been affected or uprooted by conflict, violence, and/or natural disaster.
Soft Landing Missoula (SLM) is diligent in their focus to engage our community in being a welcoming, supportive and informed place to help refugees and immigrants integrate and thrive. Soft Landing works in conjunction with an incredible array of local partners and community members to provide ongoing support to our new friends and neighbors as they settle into our community.
SLM supports incoming and existing refugees and immigrants by providing a community resource center, support for teens and adults, driver’s education, in-kind donation organization and distribution, and through their program United We Eat; occasional dessert sales and a once a week take-out option for the community prepared by rotating refugee and immigrant chefs.
Today, over 250 individuals who recently came as refugees and immigrants safely call Missoula their home.
This year, the Missoula community is expected to welcome over 200 refugees to the area, which is nearly double than in years past. Draught Works believes EVERYONE deserves a safe, welcoming, supportive and inclusive place to call home, and that’s why we’ve selected Soft Landing Missoula as our Q1 $2,000 Cheers for Charity recipient.
