Draught Works Annual Adult Spelling Bee
The Draught Works annual Adult Spelling Bee is a beloved tradition that’s been a highlight in the Missoula community since 2019. Our first bee was held here at Draught Works in April 2019, where spellers of all skill levels gathered to showcase their linguistic prowess. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, we remained committed to bringing this event back, and in 2022, we proudly revived the event. Since then, it has become a highly anticipated annual to-do, eagerly awaited by Missoula residents and visitors alike.
Over the years, the Adult Spelling Bee has grown in popularity, attracting a diverse crowd of spellers and spectators who come together to celebrate language, community, and great beer. With an average turnout of around 200 participants and onlookers, the bee transforms our taproom and deck into a hive of activity, where friendships are forged, memories are made, and champions are crowned.

What to Expect During the Event
Dust off your dictionaries, sharpen your pencils, and get ready to b-e-e a part of something truly special. Our annual Adult Spelling Bee is a beloved local tradition that brings together the Missoula community for an evening of friendly competition. It’s an opportunity to showcase your spelling skills, win fantastic prizes, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of our taproom.
Written Spelling Test: The event kicks off promptly at 6 PM, with the written spelling test portion of the bee. All participants will be given an entry form and challenged to spell 10 words.
Free Beer: As a token of appreciation, all participants who complete the written spelling test will receive a token to exchange for free beer or a Water Works Hard Seltzer of their choosing.
On-Stage Spelling Bee: At 6:30 PM, the top 9 spellers, and our reigning champion from the previous year will be selected to compete in the on-stage spelling bee. This is where the real excitement begins as contestants battle it out for the title of Missoula’s Adult Spelling Champion!
Prizes: Fabulous prize packages will be awarded to the top three contestants, including the grand prize for our 2024 Adult Spelling Champion.

Time: 6:00 PM (Sharp) Please arrive on time as latecomers will not be able to participate in the written portion.

Registration: No sign-up required. Just show up and b-e-e ready to spell!
AT PROMPTLY 6 PM:
We will begin the written spelling test! ALL willing participants will be handed an entry form and challenged to spell 10 words. We’ll give out a FREE BEER to ALL PARTICIPANTS that complete the written test!
AT 6:30 PM:
After our team grades everyone’s written spelling test, we’ll send the 9 most-talented spellers and our 2023 Champion to the stage for the ultimate adult spell-off!
Prize packages will be awarded to the runner-up and third-place participants and the grand prize package will be awarded to the 2024 Adult Spelling Bee! B-E-E there or B-E-E square Missoula! Catch you in the Draught Works taproom on Thursday, April 18th at 6 PM SHARP!
